Adley Rutschman adds new wrinkle to Home Run Derby as switch hitter

SEATTLE (AP) — Adley Rutschman added a brand new wrinkle to the Home Run Derby, even when it didn’t end in a victory.

Rutschman displayed his energy from either side of the plate as a swap hitter, swatting a mixed 27 homers in his first-round matchup on Monday evening.

Rutschman had the group roaring throughout the preliminary 3-minute spherical, hitting 21 homers left-handed. Rutschman’s longest homer left-handed was a 445-foot shot that reached the third stage of proper area at T-Mobile Park.

For the bonus spherical, Rutschman flipped round and hit right-handed. Rutschman hit six out to left area within the 30-second spherical and walked off to a standing ovation.

Ultimately, it was a dropping effort as White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr. hit 28 homers to advance within the occasion.

From Portland, Oregon, Rutschman grew up attending Mariners video games and had his dad Randy Rutschman as his pitcher for the occasion.

In his two seasons within the majors, Rutschman has hit a complete of 25 homers.
