NORAD is monitoring more objects that could be additional spy balloons: sources – National | 24CA News

Officials with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) are monitoring what look like one or two extra potential spy balloons, three safety sources inform Global News.

No data on the place the balloons have been situated was instantly obtainable and Global News isn’t conscious of whether or not a call to intercept or shoot the objects down has but been taken.

NORAD is the joint North American army response alliance that sees Canadian and America army officers working collectively on continental defence. The Canadian Department of National Defence deferred remark to NORAD Saturday.

The U.S. shot down a “high-altitude object” over Alaska, close to Canada’s northern border, on Friday. A spokesperson for the Pentagon mentioned the balloon was believed to be heading in the direction of Canadian airspace.

The incident got here every week after the U.S. took down a Chinese surveillance balloon that had flown over Canadian airspace and the northwestern U.S. for a number of days earlier than being shot down over the Atlantic Ocean by the usair drive.

The ‘high-altitude’ object shot down on Friday had not entered Canadian airspace, Defence Minister Anita Anand mentioned in a press release on Friday.
