Moldova airport shooting: Officials say man denied entry stole gun, killed 2 – National | 24CA News

Law enforcement in Moldova says two individuals have been shot and killed on the Chisinau International Airport on Friday by a overseas nationwide from Tajikistan who was denied entry on arrival to the airport.

President Maia Sandu mentioned in an announcement that the person had shot a border police officer and an airport safety worker.

Authorities confirmed on Facebook that the individual had been taken into custody and was being handled for an damage.

The suspect was being escorted by officers on the airport when he took the gun of a border guard and opened hearth, officers mentioned.

One witness, Olena Shevelyova, mentioned she heard 4 or 5 bullets.

“We heard some guns shooting and we were asked to go in some buildings here … to hide behind the buildings,” she informed Reuters by telephone.

Shevelyova, 48, a Ukrainian government who had been ready to board a flight to Milan, mentioned she heard ambulances coming close to the airport.

“It was unclear if there was a bomb or something had happened. It was only after we went far away from the airport that we were told there is someone who is shooting.”

“We send our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and relatives, the loss of loved ones is a great pain for the families,” Sandu mentioned in an announcement on Facebook. “It’s a sad day for all of us.”

Sandu added that state establishments had been positioned on excessive alert, with police and legislation enforcement businesses “mobilized throughout the Republic of Moldova” in response.

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean mentioned in an announcement a wounded passenger was being handled by docs following the taking pictures.

All passengers have been evacuated from the airport, authorities mentioned.
