Alberta moves to force oilpatch to pay owed taxes above ‘threshold’ amount


The Alberta authorities says it is transferring to drive oilpatch firms to make good on their unpaid municipal taxes.


Energy Minister Peter Guthrie says he is issued an order that blocks firms from buying or transferring licences on wells or different property if their unpaid taxes exceed a threshold quantity.


That threshold is but to be decided and will likely be set by the Alberta Energy Regulator and Alberta Municipal Affairs.


Alberta Energy says in a launch that after the brink has been established, firms that do not meet it is going to be focused for assortment.


Rural Municipalities Alberta has mentioned power firms owe the municipal districts through which they function a complete of $268 million.


Paul McLauchlin of the group says the order will assist cut back the unpaid tax burden on its members.
