Real Madrid has referred to as a board assembly for Sunday to debate alleged makes an attempt by archrival Barcelona to affect referees, the European and Spanish soccer champion mentioned on Saturday.
Spanish prosecutors filed a grievance on Friday towards Barcelona and two of the LaLiga membership’s former presidents over alleged funds to an organization owned by a senior refereeing official to affect match outcomes.
Barcelona has denied any wrongdoing.
Real Madrid mentioned in an announcement its president, Florentino Perez, had convened a board of administrators assembly for 12 p.m (1100 GMT) on Sunday “to decide on the actions that Real Madrid deems appropriate in relation to this matter”.
It didn’t elaborate on the potential actions.
A senior Barcelona official advised Reuters on Friday the membership had anticipated the prosecutors’ grievance and described it as “nothing more than an absolutely preliminary investigative hypothesis”.
The official added the membership “will fully cooperate with the investigation by all means necessary” and “reiterates that they have never bought any referee nor have tried to influence any official’s decisions”.
