CF Montreal names defensive midfielder Samuel Piette as captain

Major League Soccer membership CF Montreal has named defensive midfielder Samuel Piette as captain for the 2023 season.

The 28-year-old Piette has two targets and 10 assists in 145 video games, together with 129 begins over seven MLS seasons.

Piette turned CF Montreal’s all-time chief in minutes in a March 4 match towards Austin FC with 11,487, overtaking Nacho Piatti (11,427).

He can equal Piatti’s membership report of 130 begins if he’s within the beginning 11 when Montreal hosts Philadelphia on Saturday. He can be closing in on Patrice Bernier’s report of 151 whole MLS appearances.

Midfielder Victor Wanyama and defender Kamal Miller will proceed to behave as assistant co-captains.

Internationally, Piette, from Le Gardeur, Que., has earned 66 caps with the Canadian males’s nationwide staff since making his debut in 2012 at age 17. He represented Canada final November on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
