First-ever national 3×3 basketball championship to be held in Chennai from September 22

Basketball Federation of India (BFI) President Aadhav Arjuna on Thursday introduced that the first-ever senior nationwide 3×3 basketball championship might be held from September 22 to 24 on the Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium right here.

He made the announcement at a press convention on the indoor stadium.

Thirty groups will take part within the occasion which might be performed on half-court that might be arrange as per FIBA requirements. Plates have been imported from China for ground overlaying, and had been being fastened on Thursday.

Speaking to Sportstar after the presser, he stated that there’s a plan to begin a National 3×3 basketball league and that a number of corporates have proven curiosity in sponsoring and offering other forms of assist for the initiative.

“This will be fun to watch. It may even be said that this event is being conducted as a test run before establishing the league,” he stated.

He added that there’s an ongoing effort to tie up with North America’s National Basketball Association (NBA) to determine franchise-style academies in India.

“BFI will take care of everything – infrastructure, accommodation, taking care of the players and all. NBA has to take care of the production (of players). It’s role is to impart its coaching and training methods to the wards thereby developing, producing class players.”
