Mets to call up power-hitting prospect Vientos (source)
Less than 24 hours after hitting his thirteenth homer of the season in Triple-A, Mets infield prospect Mark Vientos is ready to return as much as Flushing, a supply advised MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Wednesday. The membership has not confirmed.
Vientos, the membership’s No. 7-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, is raking at Triple-A Syracuse, slashing .333/.416/.688 with 37 RBIs and 24 extra-base hits. His teammate, Ronny Mauricio, leads the International League in XBHs with 26, and he is batting .354 with seven homers and 27 RBIs.
Before going off with three homers of their 8-5 loss to the Rays on Tuesday, the Mets had not gone deep in 56 innings, which ended on Brett Baty’s fifth-inning homer.
The membership is hoping Vientos, who collected one homer and three RBIs over 16 video games after he was known as up final September, will jolt a Mets offense that ranks tenth in runs (179) and ninth in homers (44) within the National League.
