Jansen to bat second, Springer stays sixth as Blue Jays open series against White Sox

Catcher Danny Jansen will hit second within the batting order when the Toronto Blue Jays start their three-game house collection Monday afternoon towards the Chicago White Sox.

Jansen was on the bench throughout Sunday’s 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays with Alejandro Kirk behind the plate. Left fielder Daulton Varsho, who batted second Sunday, drops again all the way down to seventh.

Meanwhile, proper fielder George Springer is staying put within the No. 6 spot because the long-time leadoff man has struggled on the plate.

Springer raised his batting common above the Mendoza line to .201 with one hit — an RBI double within the fourth inning — over two at-bats Sunday. The 34-year-old additionally had a pair of walks and scored twice.

Starting pitcher José Berríos (4-3, 2.82 ERA) takes the mound for the Blue Jays whereas the White Sox will ship Erick Fedde (4-0, 2.60) to the hill.
