Blue Jays RHP Merryweather DFA after team officially signs 1B Belt

The Toronto Blue Jays cleared roster area for first baseman Brandon Belt by designating right-hander Julian Merryweather for task on Tuesday.

Toronto signed the left-handed hitting Belt, a former San Francisco Giant, to a one-year, $9.3-million deal.

Merryweather has battled accidents all through his time in Toronto. He was the participant to be named later within the deal sending Josh Donaldson to Cleveland in 2018.

Merryweather made his major-league debut in August 2020.
