Canada will match donations up to $10M to Gaza humanitarian fund – National | 24CA News
The Canadian authorities introduced Friday that it will likely be matching contributions made to the Humanitarian Coalition’s Gaza Humanitarian Emergency Appeal.
In an announcement, International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen says that each donation, retroactive to Oct. 7 – the day Hamas attacked Israel — till Nov. 12, 2023, will probably be matched by Ottawa as much as $10 million.
“Canadians believe in helping others in times of need. And as a government, we know we have more to do to support Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank,” Hussen stated in an announcement.
“This is why we are joining forces with Canadians in supporting our partners on the ground that are providing urgent, life-saving assistance to those most severely impacted by this humanitarian crisis.”
The Humanitarian Coalition is an assist group made up of 12 non-governmental our bodies together with World Vision, Save the Children and Oxfam Canada.
After Nov. 12, the Humanitarian Coalition will obtain the matching funds from the federal government after which distribute that cash to their member organizations.
This shouldn’t be new assist cash. The authorities says it would come from the already allotted $50 million for humanitarian help within the area, which was introduced on Oct. 21.
Canada has already allotted $10 million from this fund to organizations just like the Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF, the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization.
