USask driving simulator aims to improve skills of new Saskatchewan drivers – Saskatoon | 24CA News

Young and new drivers on the highway in Saskatchewan are getting the chance to enhance their driving abilities digitally by the University of Saskatchewan.

Ryan Toxopeus, USask analysis coordinator, mentioned they’re beginning a examine with a passenger car driving simulator to offer drivers extra time on the highway.

“Currently we’re running a study for young drivers, novice drivers who have a learner’s permit, and we’re basically giving them some extra training on the simulator,” Toxopeus mentioned.

He mentioned this provides younger drivers the chance to follow tough or harmful situations in a protected method.

“There’s no risk of bodily harm or damaged vehicles or surrounding infrastructure.”

Toxopeus mentioned the goal of the examine is to see if this simulation helps these drivers.

“We’re going to be recruiting participants for the study, having them drive in the simulator, then following their real driving progress on the road.”
