Speeding driver arrested in Surrey after hitting pedestrian: Surrey RCMP – BC | 24CA News

A pedestrian is in hospital with minor accidents and a driver has been arrested following a crash in Surrey Monday night, which police say might have concerned dashing.

Around 6:15 p.m., Mounties responded to a single car collision at one hundred and fortieth Street and 88th Avenue, in response to a press release by Surrey RCMP.

“The vehicle involved was traveling eastbound on 88th Avenue, from 140th Street, and drove up onto the sidewalk and struck a pedestrian, walking on the sidewalk,” a press release reads.

“At this time of the investigation, it appears speed was a factor in this incident, and the driver has been taken into custody, pending the investigation.”

Officers say the pedestrian suffered minor accidents and was taken to hospital.

Surrey RCMP didn’t say if officers made any makes an attempt to tug over the suspect car previous to the crash however officers did inform Global News: “there was no pursuit of the suspect vehicle.”

Mounties additionally stated the province’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., has additionally not been referred to as in.

“An officer was not involved in this incident, and the IIO has not been notified, as it does not meet their threshold for notification,” Surrey RCMP stated, in a press release.

Neighbourhood resident Sandhosh Sivakumar was on the seen and spoke with Global News.

“I didn’t see any ambulances; I didn’t see anybody that’s in the car or anybody just in front of us,” Sivakumar shared.

“The ambulance probably took the patient away hours ago, but I don’t know why the cops are still here blocking.”

“I don’t know why they’d bring out the whole calvary. There’s a bunch of cops everywhere. We sure hope that the person who got hit is ok,” Sivakumar added.

Surrey RCMP closed down visitors alongside 88th Avenue between one hundred and fortieth Street and 142A Street whereas the investigation continues.
