President of Sikh Gurdwara shot and killed in Surrey parking lot, BC Sikh community reports – BC | 24CA News
A high-ranking member of the B.C. Sikh neighborhood was shot and killed Sunday night in a Gurdwara car parking zone.
Mounties say the capturing occurred simply earlier than 8:30 p.m. at Scott Road close to 72nd Avenue in Surrey.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been known as in to work with Surrey RCMP on this file.
So far, police haven’t confirmed any arrests or suspect descriptions.
According to a put up from the BCSikhs Instagram web page, President Hardeep Singh Nijjar of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara was killed whereas sitting in a car, exiting the Gurdwara’s car parking zone.
The put up claims two gunmen shot Nijjar though Surrey RCMP haven’t confirmed these allegations.
Mounties are gathering proof from the scene and are talking to witnesses within the space.
Video obtained by Global News seems to point out glass of a gray pickup truck smashed out.
“I just live close by, and I was kind of curious, so I went inside, and I heard people talking about the body still being there,” witness Jas Minhas advised Global News.
“I heard them offering prayers, which you typically do if somebody passed away.”
According to an Indian media report in 2016, Nijjar was accused of working a terror coaching camp in Mission allegedly coaching Sikh youth to doubtlessly perform assaults within the state of Punjab.
However, RCMP mentioned there was no data on the time substantiating any claims of a terror camp in Mission.
Nijjar has repeatedly claimed his innocence and penned a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying the allegations have been “factually baseless and fabricated.”
Back in 2018, India filed a First Information Report towards Nijjar, who it accuses of plotting to hold out a serious terrorist assault in Punjab.
Nijjar has beforehand admitted to talking out in favour of Sikh separatism however denied being concerned in any acts of violence.
