Montreal celebrates Greek Independence Day – Montreal | 24CA News

Montreal’s weekend-long Greek Independence Day celebrations got here to a detailed Sunday afternoon.

The parade has been a practice in Montreal for over 40 years. The occasion celebrates the 1821 struggle of independence in opposition to the Ottoman Empire.

Liberal MP for St Laurent, Emmanuela Lambropolous stated it’s essential to rejoice her roots.

The parade is organized by the Hellenic Community of Montreal yearly.

“It’s a fantastic event celebrating 202 years of Greek independence,” stated HCOM VP Michael Tsoukas.

“As a Hellenic Montrealer it’s my big pleasures to be here participating,” he added.

The parade lasted about 45 minutes with Greek colleges, organizations, dancers and dignitaries. While the climate wasn’t very spring like, spectators nonetheless appeared to benefit from the occasion.
