The closing report of the general public inquiry into the Nova Scotia mass capturing says the gunman’s associate — a survivor of his violent home abuse — was revictimized by the RCMP investigation into the tragedy.
Gabriel Wortman’s rampage left 22 lifeless in April 2020 and commenced when he assaulted his associate, Lisa Banfield, who escaped and survived by hiding within the woods.
The inquiry’s report says the Mounties’ remedy of Banfield throughout their investigation is an instance of the kind of revictimization that daunts girls who survive gender-based violence from in search of assist.
The report notes that Banfield voluntarily informed police particulars about Wortman from the again of an ambulance simply hours after he had violently assaulted her.
It says police didn’t {photograph} her accidents or organize for sufferer providers to supply her assist, including that Banfield co-operated absolutely with the RCMP investigation.
