Educators in Saskatchewan plan to work on boosting graduation rates among Indigenous students  | 24CA News

Educators in Saskatchewan say they plan to work on boosting commencement charges amongst Indigenous college students after a report discovered little change.

A current auditor report says solely 45 per cent of Indigenous college students in Saskatchewan graduated inside three years after beginning grade 10, and 62 per cent inside five-years.

The auditor says the federal government didn’t meet its targets, however directors in Regina and northern Saskatchewan say they’ve made some progress.

They say poverty, homelessness, meals insecurity and intergenerational trauma have made it tough for Indigenous college students to succeed.

The directors say courses involving language and tradition have helped college students keep in school and extra of those initiatives ought to enhance commencement charges.

The auditor recommends the federal government do assessments earlier so academics can handle points earlier than it’s too late, and motion plans needs to be applied if targets aren’t being met.
