Country Thunder ‘pretty calm so far’: RCMP say  | 24CA News

With tens of 1000’s of individuals attending and tenting for Country Thunder in in Craven, Sask., there’s a large safety presence.

With a status for being rowdy and typically chaotic, the crowds at Country Thunder are managed by a safety staff of a number of hundred folks, in addition to the RCMP.

“We try to be really proactive on our end, but if anything is going to be a criminal nature or anything else like that, the RCMP is on site to help back us up as well,” stated Shawn Pearce, Country Thunder safety coordinator.

Using a central dispatch system, all safety groups are ready to reply to an incident rapidly. However, issues have been fairly calm on the pageant up to now.

“Everybody is listening to security, they’re listening the members that are on scene, they’re listening to the event staff, and everything is going smoothly so far,” stated Tim Sartison, Staff Sergeant.

While most years the campground is both scorching scorching or moist with mud, Pearce believes the great climate helps issues run easily.

“This is the first time in a long time where we’ve been so dry and so everybody’s really happy when they’re getting in here,” Pearce stated. “They’re not getting bogged down with anything and they’re really enjoying themselves as they’ve come in. So, they’ve set up well, we’ve had a good flow of our campers and everybody else that’s come in and the campground seems to be in a really good spirit.”
