Community organization donates handmade toques, scarves to Edmonton’s homeless – Edmonton | 24CA News
Hundreds of hours had been spent knitting scarves and toques, all of which had been donated to the Bear Clan Patrol to present to Edmonton’s homeless.
The group is made up of volunteers who exit on the streets and assist folks experiencing homelessness — a particular want as the town experiences plummeting temperatures.
“Our brothers and sisters love to have homemade items. It shows them that the community cares and loves them,” stated Judith Gale with the Bear Clan Patrol in Beaver Hills.

The collective group initiative began accumulating heat climate clothes simply as temperatures took a dip.
Through his job as a postal employee, volunteer Rashpal Sehmby says he has seen folks struggling on Edmonton streets.
“We have seen people who have lost tips of their fingers because of frost bite and stuff like that or living on the streets,” Sehmby stated.
The metropolis has issued its excessive climate response, which suggests the winter warming bus can be operating, the encampment response workforce can be doing wellness checks and all public libraries and recreation centres can be utilized for warming functions.
The winter gadgets that had been donated Saturday will make a giant distinction for these people who find themselves dwelling tough, stated Gale.
“We need to be able to keep our brothers and sisters safe during this cold snap. We really need a lot of clothing and blankets and jackets and gloves and toques and all of these wonderful items handmade. You just can’t ask for anything better,” she stated.
While the clothes drive ends Saturday, donations for heat garments are at all times in excessive demand and welcome.
“It’s going to mean a life difference to our brothers and sisters. It’s going to keep them alive during this cold weather,” Gale stated.
