Homeless people dwelling in tents in Kingston, Ont., on municipal land surrounding the Integrated Care Hub are bracing for a potential eviction by town.
“I know I won’t leave easy, and I am not the only one,” stated Jay English, one of many campers that might be pressured to relocate in per week.
The municipality plans to take away folks dwelling principally in tents and lean-tos comprised of scrap wooden on March 21.
Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson says he expects these remaining on the camp will go away voluntarily.
“We are in a different position now than we were back in January,” Paterson instructed Global Kingston.

Trellis HIV & Community Care oversees the operation of the ICH and its government director, Gilles Charette, says unhoused people shouldn’t be pressured to depart the encampment.
“The challenge that we find ourselves in it’s that there are still individuals in the encampment and we need to ask ourselves why that is,” stated Charette.
Charette and Lee say the actual reply to the encampment is offering housing moderately than shelters.
