Akwesasne Mohawk Police say they’re working with Immigration Canada and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to verify the identities of the eight migrants whose our bodies have been pulled from the St. Lawrence River this week.
On Thursday, police found the our bodies of 5 adults and one youngster in a marshy space, and recovered the physique of a second youngster and an grownup girl on Friday.

One of the kids was a Canadian citizen, and the victims are believed to be of Romanian and Indian descent.
Police haven’t made any direct connections between the deaths of the eight migrants and a lacking 30-year-old Akwesasne resident, Casey Oakes, who was final seen Wednesday evening working a ship that was discovered Thursday subsequent to the our bodies of the migrants.

Akwesasne straddles the Canada-U.S. border, with elements of the territory in Ontario, Quebec and New York state.
Authorities say the territory’s distinctive geography makes it a preferred spot for human smugglers, with police making 48 separate interceptions involving 80 individuals making an attempt to enter the United States illegally since January.
Most of them have been of Indian or Romanian descent.
