Statistics Canada reports retail sales up 0.1% in June at .9 billion

Statistics Canada says retail gross sales rose 0.1 per cent to $65.9 billion in June, lifted by gross sales at new automobile sellers.


The company says core retail gross sales — which exclude gasoline stations and gasoline distributors and motorcar and elements sellers — fell 0.9 per cent in June.


Retail gross sales rose in three of the 9 subsectors, led by a 2.5 per cent acquire at motorcar and elements sellers as gross sales at new automobile sellers added 2.9 per cent. Sales at gasoline stations and gasoline distributors rose 0.3 per cent, lifted by greater costs on the pump in June.


Meanwhile, gross sales at common merchandise shops fell 1.4 per cent and meals and beverage retailers noticed a drop of 0.9 per cent.


In quantity phrases, retail gross sales fell 0.2 per cent in June.
