Metro says union refused request to meet amid ongoing grocery strike in the GTA
Amid an ongoing strike by Metro staff in Toronto, the grocery large says Unifor refused its request to fulfill with the bargaining committee.
Metro Inc. spokeswoman Marie-Claude Bacon says in a press release that Metro’s bargaining committee reached out to Unifor over the weekend and provided to fulfill as quickly as Sunday or Monday.
But Unifor says it is ready for a suitable provide from Metro.
Around 3,700 Metro staff have been on strike since late July at 27 shops throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
The staff voted towards a tentative settlement that Unifor nationwide president Lana Payne described as their finest in many years, selecting as an alternative to strike and demand extra from their employer.
Bacon says the tentative settlement included paid sick days for part-time staff, enhancements in advantages and pensions, and vital wage will increase.
