Amazon announces opening date for southern Ontario fulfilment centre

Amazon Canada will open its 2-million sq. foot facility between London and St. Thomas on Oct. 1.

In advance of the opening, Amazon stated it should begin hiring in September with a purpose of hiring greater than 1,000 common full-time workers.

“We’re thrilled to have Amazon join our community. We are very much looking forward to the positive economic and social impact the opening of the Amazon Fulfilment Centre will bring to our area,” stated Township of Southwold Mayor Grant Jones. “The revitalization of the site offers new opportunities for our local residents and region for years to come.”

According to a launch, Amazon stated workers will work alongside the newest superior Amazon Robotics expertise to course of as much as 750,000 objects a day.

The facility is situated  on the web site of the previous Ford auto plant on Colonel Talbot Road.

Construction on the web site started in July 2021.
