Canada Post planning to raise the price of stamps by 7 cents

It could quickly price extra to ship letters within the mail.


Canada Post is aiming to boost the price of stamps by seven cents, to 99 cents, for stamps bought in a booklet, coil or pane, which it says account for almost all of gross sales.


The value of stamps bought individually would go as much as $1.15 from $1.07 for a home letter.


Other merchandise, together with U.S., worldwide letter-post and home registered mail, would even be affected by the speed adjustments.


The value will increase had been introduced for public remark right this moment and, topic to regulatory approvals, would take impact on May 6.


Canada Post says home letter mail charges have gone up twice within the final decade: by 5 cents in 2019 and two cents in 2020. It says the final “major pricing change” was made in March 2014.


The company says the proposed value improve comes because it faces “considerable” monetary strain resulting from inflation and the truth that annually, there are fewer letters to ship to extra addresses.


It says the affect of the change is estimated to be about 65 cents per 12 months for the typical Canadian family, and about $12.07 for the typical Canadian small business.
