Montreal’s oldest group serving individuals with out housing says it could not afford to serve meals on weekends.
Accueil Bonneau, which operates a soup kitchen and gives different providers in Old Montreal, says it can cease its weekend meals this Saturday.
It says that if an settlement isn’t reached with the province to extend funding, it must cease serving meals fully in February.
The group, which was based in 1877, says it gives meals to round 400 individuals each day.
Lionel Carmant, Quebec’s minister liable for social providers, is scheduled to fulfill with the group Wednesday.
A spokesman for Carmant says that the minister has been speaking with Accueil Bonneau concerning the state of affairs and that $50,000 in emergency funding has already been supplied.
