A Montreal man who spent nearly per week in hospital with a salmonella an infection after consuming cantaloupes is searching for permission to launch a class-action lawsuit in opposition to two meals firms.

Law agency Slater Vecchio LLP filed the appliance Dec. 12 in Quebec Superior Court alleging that Olivier Archambault bought sick after he consumed melons produced by Mexico-based Malichita and distributed in Canada by Arizona-based Trufresh.
In November the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued meals recall warnings for melons produced by Malichita, and later within the month issued recollects for melons by Rudy model, that are produced in the identical space of Mexico.
As of final week the Public Health Agency of Canada has reported 164 laboratory-confirmed instances and seven deaths from cantaloupe-linked salmonella throughout eight provinces; 111 of these instances are in Quebec.
The lawsuit says the plaintiff acquired a cantaloupe in a subscription field in late October, and acquired one other at a grocery retailer in Montreal.
