A extreme thunderstorm warning is in impact for Calgary and space, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) introduced late Thursday.
At 5:45 p.m., ECCC mentioned the extreme thunderstorm is situated over the northwest sector of the town and is “nearly stationary.” The federal company mentioned the storm may produce excessive winds and nickle-sized hail.
One viewer within the west of the town informed Global News they noticed dime-sized hail.
Traffic on Stoney Trail Northwest close to Nose Hill Drive got here to a standstill as water coated the roadway.
At simply after 6 p.m., ECCC mentioned an almost stationary line of extreme thunderstorms is situated from 30 kilometres west of Water Valley, Alta., to Calgary.
The federal company warns heavy downpours may cause flash floods and water pooling on roadways. Large hail may cause property harm and damage, and extreme thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
People are urged to remain indoors throughout thunderstorms.
