California hotel workers back on the job after strike. But union warns more walkouts are possible
Workers who picketed 19 main Southern California lodges over the lengthy vacation weekend have been again on the job Wednesday. But their union warned that extra walkouts may come at any time.
No progress was reported in negotiations between employers and Unite Here Local 11, which represents bellhops, entrance desk brokers, room attendants, cooks, servers and dishwashers.
Union members voted final month to strike at 60 lodges in Los Angeles and Orange counties. They are demanding higher wages, improved health-care advantages, greater pension contributions and fewer strenuous workloads.

Unite Here Local 11 spokeswoman Maria Hernandez described this week’s walkouts because the “first wave” in an ongoing labour motion that would quickly carry picket traces to 41 different lodges.
