Greta Thunberg charged with disobeying police during climate protest: report – National | 24CA News

Climate activist Greta Thunberg, 20, has reportedly been charged with disobeying a police order in her residence nation of Sweden after she was photographed being hauled away from a local weather protest by two officers.

The incident occurred on June 19, when a bunch of younger local weather activists blocked oil tankers from driving down a highway on the port of Malmo, a metropolis in southern Sweden. Thunberg wrote in an Instagram publish that day saying demonstrators had blocked the highway for 3 days.

“The climate crisis is already a matter of life and death for countless people. We choose to not be bystanders, and instead physically stop the fossil fuel infrastructure. We are reclaiming the future,” she wrote alongside images of younger individuals sitting in a line alongside a highway.

Local each day newspaper Sydsvenskan was the primary to report that Thunberg had been charged by police in reference to the demonstration.

Police informed the outlet that about thirty vans have been prevented from driving down the highway. When police deemed the protest was inflicting an excessive amount of of a disturbance, they ordered that protesters transfer their demonstration to a close-by garden.

“Everyone was informed individually and it was also filmed by a police officer when this was done,” the police exterior commander in command of the scene informed Sydsvenskan.

Four of the 9 protesters who have been blocking the highway refused to maneuver, together with Thunberg.
