Municipal officers within the Halifax space have closed a well-liked lakeside seashore after the invention of a toxin-producing blue-green algae bloom.
The seashore at Springfield Lake in Middle Sackville closed Saturday.
Blue-green algae naturally happens in freshwater environments and should develop when climate situations are calm and heat.
Some kinds of blue-green algae produce toxins, which may pose a danger to pets and other people.
Residents are being requested to maintain their pets away from the water and to keep away from any areas the place blue-green algae is seen or in areas which have been closed to swimming.
Municipal officers say anybody coming into contact with blue-green algae or who ingest water containing it could expertise pores and skin irritation, rash, sore throat, sore purple eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea — and youngsters and immune-compromised people are at a better danger of getting sick.
