Calgary art project showcases future hopes of young Albertans – Calgary | 24CA News
There’s a brand new image of hope for Calgarians and guests to get pleasure from this summer time.
It’s an artwork undertaking on a ridge overlooking the mountains simply west of the Calgary metropolis limits.
The piece showcases 1,000 Alberta college students’ hopes for the long run, written on ribbons hanging on a tapestry. It options college students and seniors teaming as much as have fun goals for the long run.
The messages contact on all kinds of hopes.
“My dream is to see the world come together as one” reads one, whereas one other states “My dream is to lead a meaningful life.”
Made of wool, the tapestry was crocheted by members of the Bowness Seniors Club.
“It’s a work of love,” membership member Brenda Ault mentioned.
The tapestry holding the ribbons is connected to tree trunks.
“The trees bring the earth and sky together,” artist Sabine Lecorre-Moore mentioned.
Lecorre-Moore and her fellow Calgary artist Patricia Lortie have been in command of the undertaking, touring to high school round Alberta to create the piece, known as Territories of Dreams.
“We were on the road for a full month, from Lethbridge to Fort McMurray and north of Slave Lake,” Lecorre mentioned. “Sharing dreams creates links between communities, Anglophone, Francophone, First Nations — we all have the same basic dreams.”
Calgary Grade 12 scholar Charlotte Hawboldt was one of many individuals who wrote her hopes for the long run on a ribbon.
“I talked about wanting a garden, to live by the ocean, to live a happy life,” Hawboldt mentioned.
Hawboldt is grateful to have had the possibility to take part within the undertaking.
“We hear a lot of really pessimistic things, but people still have a lot of hope,” Hawboldt mentioned. “It’s so, so cool!”
Territories of Dreams will stay on show till the top of September 2023 within the outside sculpture park on the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre.
