The first Indigenous lady to steer a provincial or territorial authorities in Canada is being honoured with a brand new stamp.
Canada Post says it has unveiled a stamp in honour of Nellie Cournoyea, generally known as a champion of her individuals in Canada’s western Arctic.

Cournoyea was the primary Indigenous lady, and second lady, to go a provincial or territorial authorities in Canada, serving as premier of the Northwest Territories from 1991 to 1995.
Canada Post says in a press release Cournoyea is thought for the unwavering imaginative and prescient, work ethic and coronary heart which have guided her battle for Indigenous self-determination and Inuit empowerment.
Canada Post says the stamp is considered one of three Indigenous leaders stamps that will likely be launched on June 21.
The postal operator can be issuing stamps paying tribute to B.C. Indigenous chief George Manuel and Alberta Indigenous chief Thelma Chalifoux.
