Firefighters pull out of Dartmouth house fire just before roof collapses – Halifax | 24CA News

Crews battling a home hearth in Dartmouth, N.S., have been in a position to pull out of the house simply earlier than the roof collapsed on Thursday night.

Firefighters have been known as to the house on Castleton Crescent at round 6:30 p.m.

District Chief Stephen Turner, with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services, stated crews have been met with heavy hearth on the again of the home that had prolonged as much as the attic.

“Our crews made entry to get to do a search but the fire rapidly progressed to the point where we had to get our crews out,” he stated.

“In the interest of safety we pulled our crews out and the roof collapsed shortly after that.”

Turner stated firefighters transitioned to a defensive tactic, and shortly knocked down the hearth within the attic.

There was one resident and three pets, who have been in a position to get out of the house earlier than firefighters arrived. Turner stated they confirmed with a home-owner and thru a search that no one else was inside.

“We went back inside, made sure nobody was in the building. We got two vehicles out for the occupants and we are now starting to release the scene and bring out hotspots as they flare up,” he stated at round 8:30 p.m.

Turner stated the hearth was notably troublesome to assault as a result of the residence is giant and the hearth had “rapidly progressed through the attic prior to arrival.” In addition to the collapsed roof, he stated the house has vital hearth and water injury.

Fire investigators have been on scene to find out the trigger.

Six firefighting items with 20 firefighters and three help items battled the blaze.

“Our crews did a good job, knocked the fire down quickly, made sure it didn’t spread to any other residences,” Turner stated.
