CF Montreal closing visiting supporters’ section for Toronto FC rematch

In the wake of an unpleasant post-game crowd melee in Toronto on Tuesday, Montreal is closing its guests supporters’ part at Stade Saputo for Saturday’s rematch between Toronto FC and CF Montréal.

CF Montréal issued an announcement Wednesday, calling the confrontation between Montréal and Toronto followers in Canadian Championship quarterfinal play “unfortunate and unacceptable.” The membership cited fan security as the explanation for closing the part, including Toronto FC followers who bought tickets will probably be issued refunds.

CF Montréal gained the sport, 2-1. The two groups face one another Saturday in MLS league play. Montréal strikes on to host Hamilton’s Forge FC within the May 23 Canadian semifinal.

The incident occurred within the south stands after the sport, with experiences {that a} megaphone had been thrown at Toronto gamers. A video confirmed Toronto midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye being held again from going on the suspected responsible celebration.

The English assertion reads in full: “The incidents that occurred on Tuesday night in Toronto are unfortunate and unacceptable. CF Montréal condemns all acts of violence, and an investigation is underway. The safety of our fans and supporter groups is of paramount importance to the Club. No violence of any kind is tolerated at Stade Saputo, nor at any other stadium to which our fans travel. We have consequently made the decision to close the visiting supporters’ section at Stade Saputo for Saturday’s game against Toronto. TFC fans who purchased tickets in this section will be refunded. We are in discussion with Canada Soccer, Major League Soccer and Toronto FC to ensure that all future events take place in a safe and secure environment.”
