Canada is expelling the Chinese diplomat who allegedly labored with Beijing to focus on Conservative MP Michael Chong and his family members in Hong Kong.
Foreign Minister Melanie Joly stated in an announcement Monday that Zhao Wei has been declared “persona non grata” in Canada.
“This decision has been taken after careful consideration of all factors at play,” Joly stated.
The minister added different diplomats in Canada have been warned they are going to be despatched residence in the event that they have interaction in acts of international interference.
The motion comes after every week of calls by Chong and different Conservative MPs to expel Zhao, following a Globe and Mail report final Monday that alleged he was concerned with Beijing’s intelligence service in concentrating on Chong and his household.
