London police arrest man outside Buckingham Palace over suspected weapon – National | 24CA News

London police mentioned a managed explosion was carried out as a precaution exterior Buckingham Palace late Tuesday after a person was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

The Metropolitan Police pressure mentioned officers arrested the person after he approached the palace gates and threw objects suspected to be shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds. A bag that police deemed suspicious was discovered within the suspect’s possession, the division mentioned.

“Officers worked immediately to detain the man and he has been taken into police custody,” Chief Superintendent Joseph McDonald mentioned in an announcement. “There have been no reports of any shots fired, or any injuries to officers or members of the public.”

King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, weren’t believed to be at Buckingham Palace on the time of the arrest. Palace officers declined to remark, saying the incident was a police matter.

Cordons had been erected within the space. Police mentioned officers remained on the scene and investigations had been ongoing.

The incident passed off simply days forward of Charles’ coronation ceremony, which is scheduled to happen at Westminster Abbey on Saturday.
