Nova Scotia surf coach Adam Tory will signify Team Canada on May 7 within the International Surf Association World Longboard Championship in Surf City, El Salvador.

As a youth coach, Tory is being supported on his journey by his membership of younger surfers, the Grom Squad, who began a GoFundMe to assist cowl his journey prices.

“I see a huge opportunity for youth in Nova Scotia to get into competitive surfing,” Tory stated.

Juniper Balch, a member of the squad, stated the Groms wished to return the favour after Tory fundraised for them to go to Nationals in B.C. final yr.

“I placed second in the first heat that I went to, so that put me in the final heat, and then I got fourth in the country,” Balch stated. “Adam’s great, he’s really energetic, he’s fun and he’s really good at helping us, teaching us, and knowing where we’re at.”

Balch was the one Black feminine youth surfer at Nationals. Her mom, Lisa Scott, stated Tory was the one that actually made it potential for the Groms to compete.

“I just had a little freak out when I saw the email, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is happening,” he stated.
