German soccer match abandoned after referee doused in beer

ZWICKAU, Germany — A 3rd-tier soccer sport in Germany was deserted on Sunday after the referee was doused in beer by an offended fan at halftime.

Relegation-threatened Zwickau’s match towards visiting Rot-Weiss Essen didn’t proceed for the second half as a result of referee Nicolas Winter had a cup of beer thrown in his face by a fan, who was apparently sad along with his choice to ship off a Zwickau participant and award a penalty to Essen earlier than halftime.

Winter confirmed Zwickau defender Nils Butzen a pink card for bringing down American ahead Isaiah Young, then awarded Essen a penalty for hand ball from the resultant free kick.

Simon Engelmann scored from the penalty spot to equalize for 1-1 earlier than the break, when the house followers made their frustrations identified.

The match officers waited earlier than the leaving the sphere. Magenta Sport TV confirmed the fan throwing the beer on the referee’s face.
