Jackie Vautour’s family’s belongings boxed up from Kouchibouguac National Park – New Brunswick | 24CA News

Parks Canada says the non-public belongings of the household of a person who laid declare to land in New Brunswick’s Kouchibouguac National Park are being eliminated.

It says in a Tuesday night assertion that Jackie Vautour’s “family’s belongings are being carefully boxed and securely stored outside of the national park.”

Vautour died in 2021 and the Crown company says it can guarantee his household has the main points on tips on how to retrieve their belongings.

Parks Canada had given the household till March 31, 2022, to take away their belongings from the park and mentioned it will take “necessary steps” to finish the “illegal occupation.”

The Vautours have claimed they’re Acadian-Metis and have the permission of Steven Augustine, a hereditary chief of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council, to stay on the property for greater than 50 years.

However, Mi’kmaq chiefs in New Brunswick have mentioned they maintain title to the land that features the park and the rights haven’t been prolonged to the Vautours or the Acadian-Metis.
