Suit tossed: Sweetgreen swaps salad name to appease Chipotle

A lawsuit over a salad has been tossed.

Sweetgreen mentioned Thursday it can change the title of one in every of its salads in response to a lawsuit filed earlier this week by Chipotle.

Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen added the Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl to its menu final week. On Tuesday, Chipotle sued Sweetgreen in federal courtroom in California, saying the rival restaurant chain was infringing on its trademark by utilizing the phrase “chipotle” — a jalapeno chilli pepper that has been smoked and dried — to promote a product that’s much like a salad that Chipotle sells.

Sweetgreen mentioned it can change the title of the salad to Chicken + Chipotle Pepper Bowl as a part of an settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

“We are looking forward to putting this lawsuit behind us as we continue to connect more people to real food,” Sweetgreen mentioned in an announcement.

Newport Beach, California-based Chipotle mentioned it was happy that Sweetgreen is altering the title and believes the brand new title protects its emblems.

“We will continue our vigilance in protecting our intellectual property in the marketplace,” mentioned Chipotle.
