TORONTO — Ontario says it has authorized a plan to construct a highway to potential mining websites within the Ring of Fire.

But Mining Minister George Pirie has refused to reply when the highway can be constructed.

The province says the plan was designed and put ahead by Webequie First Nation and Marten Falls First Nation.

The area about 500 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay is alleged to be wealthy in essential minerals and the province has made long-standing guarantees to develop and mine the world.

Webequie First Nation Chief Cornelius Wabasse says the Northern Road Link will assist with financial reconciliation.
