Nordstrom to ‘wind down’ operations in Canada, focusing on U.S. business instead

TORONTO –

Nordstrom Inc. is closing all of its Canadian shops and chopping 2,500 jobs because it winds down operations within the nation.

The Seattle-based retailer has six Nordstrom and 7 Nordstrom Rack shops in Canada, which might be shuttered by late June.

Its e-commerce business will stop operations immediately.

Nordstrom chief govt Erik Nordstrom says the corporate is exiting Canada as a result of it doesn’t see a practical path to profitability for the business within the nation.

The wind down is being carried out by an order obtained by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice below the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.

Nordstrom first introduced plans to develop to Canada in 2012 and opened its first retailer in Calgary at CF Chinook Centre in September 2014.
