Southampton names Ruben Selles manager until end of season

SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Southampton employed Ruben Selles as supervisor till the top of the Premier League season, the relegation-threatened membership stated Friday.

The 39-year-old Spaniard led Southampton to a 1-0 win over Chelsea final Saturday in his first league sport in cost as caretaker supervisor after Nathan Jones was fired.

Selles had publicly advocated for the job, saying final week that he was “as capable of doing that as any other,” amid reviews the membership had been negotiating with former Leeds supervisor Jesse Marsch.

Southampton stays in final place forward of a vital match at Leeds on Saturday. Leeds is next-to-last and just one level above Southampton.

Selles, who was anticipated to carry a pre-match news convention later Friday, had joined Southampton as an assistant to Ralph Hasenhuttl.
