John Tory says he might be stepping down because the mayor of Toronto after having a relationship with a employees member.
Tory made the announcement throughout a late press convention Friday night.
Tory mentioned the connection did “not meet the standards to which I hold myself as mayor and as a family man.”
According to Tory, the connection started in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he and his long-time spouse had been spending “lengthy periods apart.”
Tory mentioned he might be stepping down so he can “reflect on my mistakes” and “do the work of rebuilding the trust of my family.”

He mentioned the connection “ended by mutual consent” earlier this yr.
Tory mentioned the employees member determined to pursue employment outdoors of metropolis corridor.

He mentioned he’ll work with town supervisor, metropolis clerk and deputy mayor Jennifer McKelvey to “ensure an orderly transition in the coming days.”

Tory mentioned he’s “deeply sorry” and apologized “unreservedly” to the individuals of Toronto, his employees members and his colleagues at metropolis corridor.
“Most of all, I apologize to my wife, Barb and to my family who I’ve let down more than anyone else,” he continued.
Tory mentioned he has requested town’s integrity commissioner to evaluation the connection.
Tory was first elected as Toronto’s mayor in 2014. He was re-elected in 2018 and once more in 2022.
