Foreign Minister Melanie Joly has appointed former tv journalist Tom Clark as Canada’s envoy in New York City.
Clark might be Canada’s consul normal in New York, placing him in control of Ottawa’s efforts to sow cultural and financial ties within the Big Apple, in addition to in neighboring American states and in Bermuda.

Clark involves the position after serving as chair of public-relations agency Global Public Affairs, and he moderated the Conservative occasion’s English management debate final May.
A biographical notice from Global Affairs Canada notes that in a 45-year profession in journalism, Clark lined politics, battle and economics all around the globe. He hosted The West Block on Global News from 2011 to 2017.

The division notes that Clark has been posted to Washington, D.C. and Beijing, and that his expertise in public relations put him in contact with senior business leaders as they navigated public-policy points.
He is just not the primary former broadcaster to return into the position; Pamela Wallin, who’s now a senator, served there between 2002 and 2006.
