Veteran right-handed hitter expects to DH, ‘watch Raffy play [at 3B] every single day’

BOSTON — Trading within the close to fixed Southern California heat and solar for the Green Monster, Justin Turner is assured that the following chapter of his profession will wind up being a memorable one.

“I do think that pulling the ball in the air is one of my strengths, and when I’m right at the plate that’s something I do very well, and I don’t think that coming in there trying to be a dead-red, turn-and-burn guy is ideal, and I don’t think that’s what I’m going to end up doing,” Turner stated. “But after I’m feeling good, I’m spraying the ball all over however [with] plenty of pull-side balls within the air. So I’m hoping that advantages me large time, that quick porch over there.

“I joked a lot in L.A. about how many times I flew out to the warning track, so I think it’s going to turn some of those warning-track flyouts into long singles or doubles and hopefully create some more extra-base hits.”

“I’m traditionally a slow starter in April,” Turner stated. “I didn’t expect to have a slow entire first half. I think that was kind of shocking to me. I felt good, I was putting in the work, I just wasn’t getting results. And I don’t know what clicked or what it was that one night … [June 30] against the Padres, I had a big game and everything just clicked from there.”
