TransLink to clear abandoned bicycles from bike parkades this month – BC | 24CA News

If you have got a bicycle that’s been sitting in a TransLink bike parkade, now’s the time to retrieve it.

The regional transit and transportation company mentioned Thursday it plans to clear deserted bikes out of the amenities within the coming weeks and donate them to charity.

TransLink operates 11 bike parkades at stations throughout the system, however says the amenities aren’t meant for long-term storage.

“This cleanout will free up bike parking space before the Spring and Summer months, when the parkades are most used by customers,” it mentioned in a media launch.

Starting subsequent week, Metro Vancouver Transit Police will start tagging bikes left within the parkades and taking down detailed descriptions.

Starting Jan. 26, any of these tagged bikes nonetheless left within the parkades shall be collected and checked towards police databases and the 529 Garage system to verify they aren’t stolen.

Any bikes which can be eliminated and haven’t been reported stolen shall be donated to the PEDAL society’s Pedals for the People program.

The program presents refurbished bikes to low-income Metro Vancouver residents in want of transportation.
